How to Convert an MP3 CD to an Audio CD
(using iTunes)
MP3 files are data files, and many CD players can't handle them. If your CD player won't play MP3 files, they must be converted to WAV format. You can do this using iTunes. (Note that some DVD players will play MP3 files.)
Note: Your computer must have a CD burner for this procedure to work, and your computer must have enough disk space to hold all the contents of the MP3 CD.
- Make sure you have iTunes installed as described here.
- Open your iTunes software.
- Click Edit > Preferences. The Preferences dialog appears.
- Click the Advanced tab, then click the Burning tab.
- Select Audio CD for Disc Format, then click OK. The Preferences dialog goes away.
- Create a playlist for the CD you want to create. To do this, click the large "+" sign in the lower left part of the iTunes window. A new playlist is added to the Playlists section on the left side of the iTunes window.
- Type a name for your playlist (such as New Testament) and press Enter. The new playlist appears on the list.
- Click the new playlist so that it is selected.
- Insert the MP3 CD into your computer's CD drive.
- If the CD begins to play with iTunes or with another program, stop it from doing so. (i.e., click "Stop", etc.)
- If your file manager program isn't already open, go ahead and open it. In Windows, it is called Windows Explorer.
- Add the MP3 files to your new playlist. To do this, select all the files on the MP3 CD using your file manager program, then drag and drop the files to the new playlist in iTunes. If you have already selected the playlist as described above, you can drop the files in the center of the iTunes window. iTunes begins adding the files to your new playlist.
- When iTunes finishes, remove the MP3 CD from your computer and insert a blank CD.
- Right-click the playlist name (i.e., on the left side of the screen) and select Burn Playlist to Disc. iTunes burns the new CD and converts the MP3 files to WAV files automatically while making the disc.
- When the CD is ready, play it in a regular CD player. Enjoy!
